Californians Deserve Clean Drinking Water

Californians Deserve Clean Drinking Water

August 27, 2018 California Legislature, Taxes

As lawmakers scramble to pass hundreds of bills in the final days of this legislative session, one proposal would actually make a big difference to average Californians — Senate Bill 845.  The measure would improve water quality in rural and urban communities in every county in the state.

Whereas most bills force taxes on people, this measure would create a system for customers to pay a “voluntary fee” on local water bills. Customers will have the choice to opt out of the program. And while more and more unnecessary taxes and fees are robbing hardworking residents of any wage increases, our guess is that for a buck a month most people would support making sure their drinking water is clean and safe.

This is one law that actually would benefit the public and ensure that more people have access to safe drinking water.
